Rev Liz Garrigan-Byerly is the Executive for Area Conference Ministry for the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ. She leads a team of 10 who are responsible for care, connection and covenantal processes for 550 churches, 1,400 Authorized Ministers and 25 Associations. She has taught Boundary Awareness Training to over 700 clergy across the UCC. Liz is a board member of the MetroWest Nonprofit Network and has taught similar content in their Nonprofit Management Certificate Program. Previously, Liz pastored churches for 10 years and worked in the mental health field and advocating for immigrant justice. Liz lives in Framingham with her husband, teenager and pets. She enjoys quilting and gardening, wonderful metaphors for ministry.
Arrival starts at 5 pm on Sunday, with greetings then having dinner at the Inn. Coming back to the Lodge, there is Praising God through song, then introductions and our Yankee Swap.
On Monday Rev. Liz will be guiding us through the day with four sessions:
Session I: Boundaries: Why They Matter & How to Practice Them
We'll explore what they are, why they get complicated in ministry, and how to practice healthy boundaries.
Session II: Sacred Self-Care: Tips and Tools
After outlining the challenges, we'll get practical with tips and tools to build a self-care toolkit.
Session III: Anxious Systems & Times: How to Live & Lead Through Them
Churches function as a system. We'll learn how anxiety gets passed around and how to promote calm and clarity in uncertain times.
Session IV: Weaving it All Together for a Healthy Me and We
We'll weave together all we've learned and set intentions to take back into our ministry.
Tuesday after breakfast, we have a worship service with the collection to go to a local charity or outreach program.
